What have I done?!

So, we recently decided that one way we could start saving a few pennies was for me to learn how to cut hair. I had trimmed Bridger's hair with scissors a few times, but this was the first time I ever used a buzzer on him. I got him all prepped and put on a DVD in hopes he might actually stay still. However, one move was all it took to get one part a little shorter than I intended, so of course I had to even the rest out and LOOK! It is so short! He is this little man now! We were at REI (of course) that evening and I looked over at some child sitting in a little camp chair, and I realized that it was MY child! I didn't even recognize him on first glance. What have I done?!

In a few weeks, maybe I will get used to it, but for now I have a bit of mommy shock I need to overcome. Hair grows back, right? Hopefully Jim will sit still the whole time when it is HIS turn...

In an unrelated yet entertaining event, I told B that in order to go outside, he needed to have his jacket and his rain shoes on. This is how he came back to me, ready to go: no pants, a brown leather hat, one crock, and one rain boot (on the wrong foot). He was very proud of himself.

March Multnomah Madness

Saturday we saw a break in the clouds and so we packed up (after Jim ran 18 miles that morning) and ventured out to the Gorge to enjoy Multnomah Falls.
I had forgot that there would be lots of tourists in town for the playoff games in Portland, but the crowds were not too bad, and we all enjoyed a short hike. We are slowly gearing up for summer by 'testing' to see how well Bridger hikes on his own (not in a backpack). He did great and actually acknowledged what we were trying to teach him - to stay on the trail and that nature is cool!

Thanks Jim for being game, even after your long training run!

On a side note, Bridger has never been a good "poser" for pictures. However, lately if we are trying to take a shot of Kacy, he has no problems jumping in the frame to say "cheese!" I love it! He is taking on the big brother role quite well. Kacy is a great little sister, too - she is very mellow and patient with an enthusiastic older bro.

Four nights...and counting?

Thank you Miss Kacy for the past FOUR nights of sleep! Is this a trend you are setting? We sure hope so!

Do you know this muffin man?

The other day Bridger woke up from his nap saying "Mun nin nan" "mun nin nan". After translating with my mommy interpreters, I realized he had remembered making blueberry muffins with grandma a few weeks back while singing "Do you know the muffin man?". So we recreated the experience with the blueberries we happened to have on hand. Bridger LOVES to cook. In fact if I don't watch him closely, on a daily basis, he will try to make pancakes, ramen noodles, toast or a cheese crisp all by himself.

He is a great helper in the kitchen (whether help is wanted or not) and while we cook, we passively work on his counting skills. He was playing with this little Chinese checkers game and you can see how the counting is going...

He sat there for at least 10 minutes saying 1,2,3,5,7,11,14,5,7,5,7,11,14... apparently those are the REALLY important numbers.

Our Return to Randomness

Jim and I have been known to be impulsive a time or two when it comes to the adventures we have. As a result of this spur of the moment attitude, we have had many good times that included camping trips, vacations, and moving across the country. We even continued this spontaneous tradition while Bridger was a wee infant. However, lately we have found ourselves asking "Why haven't we done..." "Why didn't we go..." "How did we miss..." and so on. And the answers include "Because I was pregnant and didn't feel like it." "We just had a baby." "We have all been sick. " "Remember how I was pregnant?" "It is too cold to take a one month old outside." and lastly, "I think you forgot how I was pregnant!" (you get the picture)...

So... I would like to announce the Schaffers are coming out of hibernation and getting back to the unpredictable adventure seeking lifestyle we are used to. Sunday afternoon we returned from church wondering if we should put Bridger down for a nap or jump in the car and head for the coast. On our drive we encountered rain, hail, snow and more rain. Once we arrived at the ocean, however, we were rewarded with bursts of sunshine! We enjoyed a reverent walk on the beach and Boy, was it WINDY!

After we returned from this trip, we remembered how we love doing stuff and we are going to return to our mantra of "Just do it - you will be glad you did!" and "Try it, you will like it".

Spring and Summer, here we come!

You want to stick how many needles in me?

Kacy's 2 month old stats:
Weight: 10 lb 14 oz (60%)
Height: 22.5 in (60%)
Head: 39 cm (60%)
...and we somehow survived this round of vaccinations.

Need a little laugh?

No matter your political views, you have to appreciate the humor here, and the fact that I laughed my head off when "the change" took place...

Six Weeks Old!

This week marks the coveted "six week old" mark for Kacy. This is exciting for me because I am officially clear to exercise and Kacy is old enough to enjoy the babysitting services at the gym. Sweet! Two hours of childcare per day here I come. Now I realize not all women get excited to work out as I do, but I am not crafty or creative so I consider being active & exercise my hobby. Being on a pregnancy and post-pregnancy exercise hiatus has been VERY hard for me. I feel like I am coming out of hibernation and can finally wake up my body to start working again. I am starting to train for a sprint triathlon in June. I figure this will also help me be in shape enough to haul 2 kids up mountains during the summer and help me keep up with our very active toddler.
Bridger continues to make life interesting. He loved walking on the ceiling with daddy's help, and though his "towel hat" was quite stylish.
Kacy is a super sweet little girl. She is content most of the time, even when big brother tries to "tackle hug" or climb all over her. She loves to be held and cuddled. She is growing very well as you can see by the chubby cheeks, and sleeps really well for us at nights too. She does have a case of baby acne going on right now, so we are trying to take care of her red splotchy skin, but she is still darling to look at and we love having her around.

Kacy also likes to talk and coo - I love it! I tried to catch it here, but this is what I got instead...
