For Memorial Day we headed to central Oregon to the John Day Fossil Beds.
We stayed in Dayville, OR, in an apartment behind the Post office. This quaint, small town had a tree that was 23 1/2 feet around nada great little park across from the post office that the kids loved.
We went to Fossil, OR and got to dig for fossils! Behind the high school in Fossill, they provide tools and buckets. Bridger and Jim were especially good at finding fossils of leaves, roots, vines and ferns.
We also did quite a bit of hiking around the John Day Fossil Beds. There are different areas where you can go hike around the places larger fossils have been found and view rocky layers that date back millions if years.
Kids are watching an archeologist use her tools to uncover a fossil.

The kids loved chasing the three cats that lived under the post office, too. After all our fun with the fossils, I think this is what they remember the most.
